The presence or absence of buttons is an important difference between ancient and modern clothing. The clothes of the ancients used only straps instead of buttons. It is difficult to find examples of using buttons in ancient portraits, poems, historical records and real objects. There are two types of buttons: "button button" and "look button". Buttons are used to fasten clothes, and buttons are used to decorate clothes.

It is called the "eye" of clothing abroad, and it is called the "pearl" of clothing in China. It is indeed an ornament, whether it is shape or color, it plays an "icing on the cake" embellishment effect on clothes.

According to records, at first the buttons were simple to make, just using shells, screws, and wood as buttons. Later, bakelite buttons, electric jade buttons, metal buttons, glass buttons, plastic-coated buttons, plated network buttons, rhinestone buttons, etc. appeared one after another, with various shapes and colorful colors. According to legend, buttons in Europe did not exist until after the 16th century, and were brought back from China by the Crusaders who participated in the "Eastern Expedition". At that time, it was mainly men, especially nobles, who used buttons. The famous King Louis XIV in French history had a royal robe with 13,000 buttons, and the pattern of each button was different. For this royal robe, he invited many experts to design button patterns for him. King Joseph I of Portugal had a royal robe with 20 diamond buttons, known as the "King of Diamonds". After the 18th century, buttons were gradually promoted to women's clothing.

With the development of science and technology, there are more and more varieties of buttons and more and more modernization. France produced a musical button on which the melody of a popular combination song was formulated. Sweden made a button without sewing. The back of the button has a small plastic slat, which is "welded" on the fabric of the clothes with the help of ultrasonic waves. A company in the United States has produced a fiber fabric with a magnetic core. The button with the magnetic core can be snugly attached to the clothes. There is also an inductive automatic lock, the "key" is the button. As long as you touch the button against the lock, the lock will automatically open. This "button" can emit radio waves of a certain frequency, and only one type of lock can be opened with one frequency.

Buttons have become not only ornamental and practical, but also more and more technical and more modern.
